Presidents Message - November 2011
Chris Collett
Thank you to so many of our chapter members (and their guests) and our student members for showing strong support at our monthly meetings. Our November meeting attracted over 120 people to hear Alan Niles speak on Ground Loop Heat Pumps Systems. Our October tour of the Delta Controls facility, and November’s presentation on BIM and Integrated Building Design by ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer Dennis Knight were also well attended.
As we move into 2012, the B.C. Chapter celebrates our 60th Anniversary. We have a special evening planned at the River Rock Resort on January 11th, when our Guests will include ASHRAE Society President Ron Jarnigan, Region XI DRC Erich Binder, and as many B.C. Chapter Past Presidents as we can find! The evening’s celebration will also include history displays spanning the last 60 years, recognition of our major Research Promotion donors, and honours for our chapter’s ASHRAE Technology award winners. We look forward to a strong attendance at this special meeting on January 11th. I recommend that you book your spot early for this one, to avoid disappointment. Registration will commence in mid-December.
In the new year, you can also look forward to presentations about European HVAC Technologies, a tour of the BCIT Aerospace Centre, and our annual Refrigeration Night. Don’t forgot our always popular (and always sold out) Golf Tournament in May, which will once again be at the picturesque Westwood Plateau. Looking further ahead, the B.C. Chapter plays host to the Region XI Chapter Regional Conference in May 2013, and our planning for the important event will ramp up in 2012.
Behind the scenes, your Board of Governors and Committee chairs have been working hard in their areas of involvement. As chapter members, you will soon be receiving your 2011-2012 Roster. If you are non a chapter member, this is one of the many reasons you should consider joining the chapter next time you renew your ASHRAE Society Membership! You have already seen the new look Totem and you will soon see a new look for the chapter website, similar in style to the newsletter. Membership activities are flourishing, our UBC Student branch is very active, and preparations for this year’s ASHRAE Technology Awards submissions are well underway. The annual generosity of our chapter members is once again evident in support for this year’s ASHRAE Research campaign.
Finally, on behalf of the Board of Governors, I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Healthy & Prosperous New Year. We look forward to your continued support for the ASHRAE B.C. Chapter’s activities in the New Year.
